Guided Walk Booking Conditions

The following booking conditions apply to bookings for the scheduled guided walks only. For the private guiding and courses please view the booking conditions by clicking here.

1.  How to book

Bookings for the scheduled guided walks are confirmed upon receipt of the full payment of £22 per person and a completed booking form. Payment for the scheduled guided walks can be made from this website using PayPal, or by cheque or bank transfer.  Cheques should be made payable to Lake District Guiding and sent with a booking form to: Lake District Guiding, Chapel Close, Kirkby Thore, Cumbria CA10 1UH.  For bank transfers, please use the following details: name: Lake District Guiding, sort code: 72-00-06, account number: 85651584.  Please use your full name if asked for a payee reference. 

When you make a booking you will be deemed to have agreed to the following conditions:

  • You and all persons named on the booking have read and accepted these booking conditions.
  • You and all persons named on the booking are suitably fit for the activity and you acknowledge and accept the hazards  risks associated with outdoor activities (see section 3).
  • You and anyone else on the booking do not suffer from any pre-existing medical condition or disability that may prevent them from actively participating in the activity (see section 4).

2. Law and jurisdiction

In making a booking with Lake District Guiding, you agree that English law will apply to this contract and to any dispute, claim or other matter of any description which arises.

3. Minimum age

Except for private bookings, the minimum age for any walk is 15. Under 18s can only participate in a guided walk if they are accompanied throughout the walk by a parent or legal guardian. Parents/guardians of under-18s remain responsible for their supervision, ensuring they are suitably equipped, adequately fit and comply with any instructions given.

4. Acknowledgement of risk

Your booking is based on your acceptance of the risk inherent in outdoor activities. By booking onto a guided walk you acknowledge that Lake District Guiding has no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any death, personal injury, accidents or loss or damage to property that may occur whilst on, during or after the guided walk, unless caused as a result of Lake District Guiding’s negligence. Whilst we ensure that any activity is as safe as possible, all clients must take sensible precautions to minimise any risk to themselves as much as possible.

5. Suitability

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are suitably equipped and adequately fit to undertake the activity you are booking. If you have any of the following conditions or are in any doubt about your fitness you should consult a GP before booking: heart conditions, epilepsy, high blood pressure, joint/bone injuries, pregnancy, vertigo. You must inform us in advance of any medical conditions, allergies and/or special requirements, dietary or otherwise that could affect your participation in any activity.

Clients not carrying/wearing the following equipment may not participate in the guided walk:

  • Good, comfortable walking boots or trail shoes
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Warm, dry walking clothing (jeans are not suitable)
  • Spare warm fleece hat and gloves (even in summer)
  • Plenty of food and drink for lunch and snacks.
  • A rucksack large enough to carry it all in (20-30 litres), ideally with a waterproof liner

6. Cancellations

We will not cancel a guided walk unless due to circumstances beyond our control, such as adverse weather conditions. If a guided walk is cancelled by us in advance, you will be refunded for the full amount paid. We cannot accept responsibility for any costs incurred by you for transport, accommodation, equipment or any other costs associated with your booking. If you cancel a booking more than 48 hours before the start time we will issue you with a refund, less £5 per person, only if we are able to re-sell your place/s on the walk. If you cancel less than 48 hours before the start time of the walk we reserve the right to retain the full amount of your booking.

7. Your walking guide

All bookings are made on the basis that clients will strictly observe any safety instructions given and that the decision of the guide is final. If you choose to ignore the safety instructions given you do so at your own risk. We reserve the right to change any walk whilst it is underway if, in the guide's judgement, this is in the best interest/s of the group or an individual in the group.

8. Complaints

In the unlikely event of any problems or complaint, these should be brought to the guide's attention at the earliest opportunity so that the matter can be resolved as soon as possible.

9. Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and all personal information is stored in accordance with our privacy policy. We will not pass on personal information for any reason apart from organising your activity.
